Newborn Photographer: Why Experience Matters

A newborn photographer may be someone you’ve never thought about before. But if you find yourself expecting a baby, that thought has probably come forth! In our city area of Pittsburgh, PA, there are a large number of newborn photographers. You’ve probably found a few whose photos you are drawn to, so what else is there to consider? Above all else, we think experience should be at the top of your list. Here are a few reasons why.

Safety Training of the Newborn Photographer

This is the absolute most important thing in newborn photography. Please, above everything else, ensure that the safety of your baby is the number one priority of the photographer. Here at Kelly Adrienne Photography, we have completed an in-depth, in-person safety and posing workshop, as well as an online safety training. With there being two of us, we are always able to have one of us close to the baby, with a hand inches away. The other person can then photograph further away, without having to risk being too far from the baby. We also know which poses that keep the baby in safety and comfort!

Soothing Techniques

This is where we really shine:) Adrienne had three babies (two of which are twins!), and Kelly had two biological children, as well as three newborns through foster care. We learned A LOT about how to soothe even the fussiest, touchiest little ones. And after 10 years of photographing newborns, we put even more into practice! Both the time of day that we shoot and the window after birth we photograph help to set us up with some happy, sleepy babies. We also have white noise, a small heater, professional swaddling, and lots of rocking and bouncing techniques for every type of baby!

Posing and Editing Variety

Now for the fun part, the photos! Experience really matters when it comes to what final photos you will receive from your newborn photographer. We have a workflow of many different poses we have perfected over the years, as well as different wrapping techniques. We have multiple setups ready for each baby, with an ability to quickly change any of them, depending on parent requests or baby’s comfort.
